The Rifles Living History Society – ABOUT THE RIFLES

THE GREAT WAR
The Rifles’ core impressions are the Regular and Service battalions of the Rifle Brigade and Kings Royal Rifle Corps in the Great War of 1914/18. The Territorial Force are covered by the Rifle battalions of the London Regiment and our county regiment impression is that of the 8th Battalion, The Hampshire Regiment, The Isle of Wight Rifles. Our members have acquired uniforms and equipment to portray the Rifleman in every year of the Great War on the Western Front, and the Middle East.
We also have a small Royal Engineer section covering chemical warfare, signalling, and transport.
Another important aspect of the Great War was the home front, here our members remember those men and women who kept the home fires burning.

SECOND WORLD WAR
For a few year now the Rifles have concentrated on our Second World War impression, with our members attending several anniversaries in Britain and Europe.
Once again the home front is not forgotten, our members remember those men and women of perhaps Britain’s greatest generation who endured the dark days of the Second World War on the home front.
